New Barn Close Surgery in Broadway, Worcestershire, is seeking an experienced Practice Nurse with Diabetes training to join our busy GP team. The role involves running clinics, performing ECGs, wound care, immunisations, and chronic disease management including diabetes.

Flexible hours and part-time pattern; you may train toward a diabetes qualification. You will work within EMIS and document consultations following NMC guidelines.

Job summary

New Barn Close Surgery has a great opportunity for an experienced Practice Nurse with Diabetes training to work as part of the primary healthcare team in our busy GP practice.

We would also be interested in hearing from experienced practice nurses who are prepared to train towards a diabetes qualification.

The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced RGN in a primary care setting and in addition any roles agreed between the nurse manager and the doctors as appropriate.

We are looking to recruit an experienced nurse for 4 days/week, however hours are negotiable for the right candidate.The post holder will have strong communication skills and will be confident running their own clinics. Diabetes training is essential - or willingness to train.

Main duties of the job

The practice nurse will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing medical services to patients. Experience in Diabetes reviews is highly desirable. Other duties to include:

• ECG's
• Wound care and suture removal
• Childhood immunisations
• Cervical smears
• Venepuncture
• Travel vaccinations
• Chronic disease management and reviews; specifically Diabetes.
• Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurse treatment rooms

About us

New Barn Close Surgery is a dispensing GP surgery located in Broadway, Worcestershire, with 3 GP partners and 4 salaried GP's providing primary care services to approximately 8000 patients.

We are a training practice for Specialist Trainee GP doctors and have a rotating final year medical student from Birmingham University.

Our nursing team comprises of a Practice nurse manager, three practice nurses, 2 HCA's and a phlebotomist.

We also have a strong and hard working Administration team.

We moved into our new surgery in October 2021 which provides us with a modern purpose built building to meet all our patient and staff needs. We have ample free car parking for staff and patients, including electric car charging points.

We have an onsite dispensary which serves approximately 50% of our patients.

Our close-knit team is committed to offering high quality, safe and effective care with a focus on providing excellent patient access and continuity of care.

The NHS GP Patient Survey is a barometer of GP Practice services across England. New Barn Close surgery came out as the highest rated surgery in the Vale of Evesham in 2026 as voted by our own patients.

We are a three partner, four salaried, rural dispensing practice for 8000 patients, with one Nurse Manager, three Practice Nurses, two HCAs and a phlebotomist to complete the in-house clinical team. Job SUMMARY and PURPOSE

To provide nursing services to the patients of the practice, including treatments, screening, disease management and advice, within the professional competence of the post holder. To work autonomously and unsupervised but responsible to the GPs.

To provide a service which is complementary to that of the GPs.

To make the best use of clinical skills within the practice.

To liaise with the Nurse Manager and other clinical members of the primary healthcare team.

• To assist and perform routine nursing tasks related to patient care as directed and agreed with the Nurse Manager and GPs.
• To provide essential Treatment duties such as BP checks, NHS Health checks, prescribed injections, BMI and lifestyle advice, suture and clip removal
• To provide holistic assessment of wounds and implement wound care in line with current evidence-based guidelines. Inclusive of the treatment of minor traumatic wounds within own level of competency.
• Offer advice about childhood and adult immunisations and ensure vaccines/injections are administrated under patient group directives or patient specific directives.
• To undertake the collection of pathological & microbiology specimens including venepuncture, swabs, urine culture in line with local guidelines
• Perform a holistic assessment of patients attending for relevant investigatory procedures such as cervical cytology, ECG and dopplers
• To provide general health promotion education, advice on national screening programmes and guide/refer patients to appropriate services or other health professionals as deemed appropriate.
• To work independently, supported by the clinical team, you will deliver Chronic Disease Management within the boundaries of your role, focusing upon supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring of long-term conditions i.e. Diabetes is essential, Ischaemic Heart Disease, Hypertension, health prevention and reviewing screening activities.
• To participate in developments within the practice and support QOF requirements.
• Undertaking annual contraceptive reviews and injections in line with practice policies.
• To maintain effective infection control measures in line with local guidelines and practice policy.
• To be able to recognise and manage anaphylaxis, according to the current UK Resuscitation Council guidelines.
• Work in accordance with NMC The Code for Nurses and Midwives (2015). Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes and on computers, as per NMC guidelines.
• Awareness of statutory protection procedures including referral and recognition of signs and symptoms of child abuse.
• Awareness of referral mechanisms for mental health issues, family violence, vulnerable adults and addictive behaviours.
• Actively take part in mandatory and internalexternal training as requested.

Other Tasks

Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs

Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms. Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and medication.

Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician

Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms

Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels

Participation in administrative systems in the Practice

At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records

A duty to advise GP of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks

Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required

On occasion there may be a requirement to undertake home visits, such as flu & COVID vaccinations

Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
