Job Summary

We are looking for a practice nurse to join our friendly, supportive and committed Practice Team. The successful individual will be responsible for the delivery of practice nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The practice nurse will be responsible for a number of clinical areas such as health promotion, chronic disease management and health prevention. A relocation package of £8,000 if moving from out of area and 5 weeks annual leave pro rata.

Professional Responsibilities
  • Support patients with long term conditions.
  • Perform treatment room procedures.
  • Undertake cervical cytology.
  • Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence based guidelines, including Dopplers and removal of sutures.
  • Carry out new patient medicals/urinalysis as required.
  • Offer lifestyle advice as appropriate.
  • Undertake ECGs and venepuncture.
  • Support patients with chronic disease management, undertaking annual reviews and follow‑ups.
  • Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions.
  • Carry out routine immunisations and childhood immunisations.
  • Provide chaperoning and assist patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician.
  • Assist GPs with minor surgery and other clinical procedures.
  • Request pathology tests (e.g. urine culture, swabs).
  • Follow agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate.
Other Tasks and Duties
  • Maintain and clean equipment used by nurses and GPs.
  • Order and manage stock, including vaccinations.
  • Participate in administrative systems in the practice.
  • Maintain accurate records at all times.
  • Attend and participate in practice meetings when required.
  • Occasionally undertake home visits.
  • Perform other delegated duties appropriate to the post.
  • Document consultations according to NMC guidelines.
  • Be aware of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, recognise signs and symptoms of child abuse.
  • Recognise and manage anaphylaxis and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
  • Obtain and document informed consent (verbal or written).
  • Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained.
  • Monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment, including refrigeration and emergency equipment.
  • Keep confidential information preserved at all times.

  • Contribute a nursing perspective to the practice development plan.

Qualifications (Essential)
