Job summary

Chase & Holland in Scunthorpe is seeking an experienced Practice Manager to take ownership of client relationships, oversee accounts and tax work, and support the development of the team within a respected independent practice.

You will manage a varied SME portfolio, mentor colleagues, and work closely with the Director to drive growth and ensure high standards of service, with a supportive environment and clear opportunities for progression.

Qualifications

• Currently working as an Accounts Senior or Practice Manager within an accountancy practice, ready to step into a broader leadership role.
• AAT qualification as a minimum.
• Strong knowledge of statutory accounts preparation, management accounts, personal and business taxation.
• Experience managing client relationships and handling a varied portfolio of SME businesses.
• The confidence to review work, support colleagues and take responsibility for the wider team.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• A proactive, professional and supportive approach, with a genuine desire to contribute to the success of the practice.

Responsibilities

• Managing a portfolio of SME clients, building trusted relationships with business owners.
• Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts, management accounts and tax computations.
• Meeting clients to discuss year-end results, tax liabilities and future planning opportunities.
• Identifying tax efficiencies and advising clients on their business and company structures.
• Supporting, mentoring and developing team members through training, work reviews and constructive feedback.
• Taking responsibility for the team when required, including during the Director’s absence.
• Advising clients on cloud accounting and supporting the transition towards Making Tax Digital.
• Keeping up to date with relevant accounting standards, tax legislation and regulatory changes.
• Supporting the Director with the day-to-day management, growth and development of the practice.

The Role

About You

You will be an experienced accountancy practice professional who combines strong technical knowledge with a genuine commitment to client service. You will enjoy working with business owners, take pride in the quality of your work and be confident supporting colleagues to develop their skills. To be considered, you will ideally have:
