Job summary

Blackpool Council is seeking a Safeguarding Practice Development Lead to improve the lives of the people we serve. This role focuses on building relationships, ensuring personal wishes are respected, and supporting individuals to live independently. Applicants should have strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to safeguarding.

The ideal candidate will work within a well-supported team, engaging with individuals to increase hope and self-esteem while upholding human rights and social justice in the vibrant community of Blackpool.

Qualifications

  • Satisfactory reference history of at least two years.
  • Disclosures & Barring Service (DBS) check required.

  • Salary: NJC Grade H3 SCP 36‑40 £47,181 - £51,356 per annum

About the Role

We are looking for a Safeguarding Practice Development Lead to support our safeguarding work, creating the right environment for all of our staff to achieve this.

Responsibilities
  • Build trusted relationships.
  • Have conversations with people based on what matters most to them.
  • Understand what is making a person less safe and why.
  • Ensure people’s wishes, feelings and beliefs are central to decision‑making.
  • Support people to live as independently as possible for as long as possible, connecting them to wider networks of opportunity and support.
  • Increase people’s hope, self‑esteem and creative potential.
  • Respond quickly in a crisis and stick with people until things are better for them.
  • Be involved in people’s lives in the least intrusive way.
  • Respect people’s decisions and ensure any decisions they cannot make by themselves are made in their best interests.
  • Make plans with people to help them be as safe as they can be and want to be.
  • Keep in touch with people to check how they are, how things are going and if anything needs to change.
  • Listen and recognise that people are experts in their own lives.
  • Respect the dignity and diversity of the people you’re working with.
  • Understand and respond to people’s unique needs and aspirations.
  • Communicate respectfully with and about people.
  • Be curious.
  • Be useful.
  • Be kind.
  • Be brave.
  • Uphold human rights and social justice.
  • Question the status quo.
