Join a friendly and growing accountancy practice
We are looking for an experienced Practice Accountant to join our team on a part-time basis in our Cottingham office.
The role is primarily focused on preparing year-end accounts, alongside Self Assessment tax returns and supporting clients with Making Tax Digital (MTD).
You’ll spend most of your time preparing accounts, tax returns and supporting working papers for review, rather than managing a large portfolio of clients.
We’re looking for someone with good UK accountancy practice experience who understands how accounts and tax returns come together, can spot potential issues and is comfortable working through routine queries independently.
The position is office-based in Cottingham, working approximately hours per week. We can consider different working patterns, including school hours.
If you enjoy preparing accounts, have a good understanding of personal tax and take pride in producing accurate, well-organised work, we’d like to hear from you.
Your main responsibilities will include:
Year-end accounts
Personal tax and Making Tax Digital
Other responsibilities
The role is focused on accounts production and tax compliance. It is not primarily a bookkeeping, payroll or client portfolio management position.
Previous UK accountancy practice experience is essential.
Ideally, you’ll be comfortable taking a job from the underlying bookkeeping records through to a well-organised draft set of accounts for review.
You’ll also have experience preparing Self Assessment tax returns and a good understanding of how personal tax works in practice.
We’re looking for someone who can spot when something doesn’t look right, identify missing information and work through routine issues rather than simply passing them on.
You may be:
We’re more interested in your practical ability and experience than the letters after your name.
Experience using TaxCalc, Xero and QuickBooks would be particularly useful.
Salary of £30,000 £35,000 FTE, pro-rata for part-time hours, depending on experience.
Part-time role of approximately hours per week.
Flexible working patterns, including school hours where practical.
Holiday entitlement plus bank holidays, pro-rata for part-time hours.
Company pension.
Perkbox subscription.
Basic healthcare package.
A supportive and friendly working environment.
Sensible working hours and a role with a clear focus.
Opportunities to develop as the practice continues to grow.
You might currently be working as a:
Practice Accountant;
Accounts & Tax Semi-Senior;
Accounts & Tax Senior; or
experienced Accounts Assistant with accounts and tax preparation experience.
This role would suit someone with several years of UK practice experience who is looking for a part-time position with a predictable working pattern.
You might be looking for hours that fit around family commitments, or simply prefer a part-time role where you can concentrate on producing good-quality accounts and tax work.
What matters is that you understand how accounts and tax returns should come together, take pride in producing accurate work and can become a dependable member of our team.
Pay: £30,000 £35,000 per annum full-time equivalent, pro-rata for part-time hours.
