Job summary

Tesco's Governance & Standards team is seeking a PMO professional to establish and maintain consistent standards across the Finance Change portfolio. You will collaborate with Delivery teams, ensuring effective governance and quality assurance while coaching stakeholders to implement standards consistently.

Apply your PMO experience to design governance structures, run health checks, and drive continuous improvement across programmes and projects.

Qualifications

• Experience in Programme and Portfolio management office operations and delivery methods.
• Formal Portfolio/Programme/Project Management qualification desirable (P3O, MoP, MSP, APM).
• Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent coaching, presentation and communication skills.
• Able to manage shifting priorities.
• Able to challenge decisions/data with confidence.
• Advanced use of Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
• Working knowledge of SharePoint, Teams and collaboration tools.

Responsibilities

• Conduct gate assurance reviews for portfolio governance approval.
• Perform health checks on projects to maintain standards and report results.
• Design flexible governance structures for effective decision-making and control.
• Continuously review governance processes to adapt to changing environment.
• Maintain standards with program management teams and implement new approaches.
• Develop training materials and train stakeholders on new ways of working.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and PMO Managers to ensure artifacts meet standards and are securely shared.

Working in the Governance & Standards team you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining consistent standards across the Finance Change portfolio. Collaborating with Finance Change Delivery teams and the wider PPMO team, ensuring effective governance, and maintaining quality assurance standards. As the team’s specialist, you’ll continually review and improve these standards, while leveraging your coaching and communication skills to ensure their consistent implementation.

You will be responsible for

Governance & Standards:

• Ensure consistent application of the Finance Change delivery methodology across programmes and projects within the portfolio.
• Conduct gate assurance reviews for portfolio governance approval.
• Perform health checks on projects to maintain agreed standards and report results.
• Design flexible governance structures that enable effective decision‑making and control.
• Continuously review governance processes to adapt to a changing environment.

Management:

• Work with the program management team to maintain standards and implement new approaches.
• Regularly assess current practices and develop best practices.
• Develop training material and train stakeholders on new and revised ways of working

Advisory:

• Collaborate with Project Managers and PMO Managers to ensure project artifacts meet agreed standards and are securely shared with stakeholders.
• Provide coaching and expertise in project management best practices, standards, and tools.

You will need

• Programme and Portfolio management office experience, with understanding of PMO process, best practice Programme and Project delivery methods
• Formal Portfolio / Programme / Project Management Qualification desirable (Such as P3O or MoP, MSP, APM) - preferable not mandatory
• Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously
• Excellent stakeholder management skills
• Excellent coaching, presentation and communication skills
• Ability to manage moving priorities
• Ability to confidently challenge decisions/data
• Excellent knowledge and advanced user of Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel
• Working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint, Teams and other collaboration tools
