Job summary

Thames Water is seeking a Power Strategy Manager to lead the new Power Resilience team, setting the strategic direction and coordinating with key stakeholders, including the Head of Power, to deliver a multi-AMP roadmap and drive investment, innovation and reporting.

You will establish Thames Water’s Power Resilience capability, creating a single strategic view across operations to reduce outages and improve system reliability, while shaping future ways of working across the organisation.

Qualifications

  • Senior management experience in utilities or a related sector.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory environments and compliance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence at senior levels and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in driving digitisation and process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with HV/LV systems and auxiliary power systems (desirable).

Power Resilience is critical to Thames Water's ability to provide safe, reliable services to millions of customers. We are expanding our Power Resilience capability to enhance how power is planned, maintained and improved across our operations. We are looking for talented individuals to join this growing team and help build a coordinated, data-led approach to managing Power Resilience across Thames Water.

What you’ll be doing as a Power Strategy Manager:

The Power Strategy Manager is a critical role to set the strategic direction for the new Power Resilience team. You will work closely with critical stakeholders and the Head of Power to develop our multi-AMP Power roadmap, prioritise where we target Power Resilience investment and drive future innovation, digitisation and reporting.

As Power Strategy Manager you will play a leading role in establishing Thames Water’s dedicated Power Resilience capability. You will be responsible for driving a single strategic view of Power Resilience across Thames Water operations, enabling the business to manage Power risk through interventions that reduce outages and improve system reliability.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a critical area of UK infrastructure and make a meaningful difference to customer outcomes and environmental protection. As the team grows, members will help shape future ways of working and bring their expertise to create lasting impact across Thames Water.

Base location: Location can be flexible for both London or Thames Valley (e.g., Hampton, Maple Lodge, Reading & Slough)

Working pattern or hours: Hybrid - 36 Hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Key responsibilities
  • Team Leadership and Organisational Capability: You will lead, motivate and develop a team of professionals to achieve high performance and support future internal capability development.
  • Power Strategy and Transformation: You will work to drive creation, implementation and adoption of strategic initiatives to deliver resilient, compliant and data-driven power operations across Thames Water.
  • Data, Insight and Digital Transformation: You will drive initiatives to enable real-time visibility and analytics of power-related data that can be used to prioritise Power Resilience interventions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Cross-Portfolio Integration: You will proactively engage with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. DNOs, NESO, Ofgem) to influence infrastructure planning, delivery of business objectives and regulatory compliance.
What you should bring to the role
  • Senior management experience in utilities or a related sector with a proven track record in leading large-scale, multi-disciplinary teams and strategic programmes.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory environments and compliance frameworks and ability to adapt to changing regulations as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence at senior levels and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in driving digitisation and process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with HV/LV systems and auxiliary power systems. (desirable)
The essential criteria to help you succeed in this role
  • Competence in electrical engineering design or relevant industry experience with ability to interpret and develop technical documentation and standards.
  • Advanced knowledge of digitisation, data management and analytics.
  • Supplier and contract management.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Ability to approve prepared and reviewed documentation ready for wider approval.
