Job summary

Michael Page is seeking a Mechanical Engineer based in North Berwick to maintain and improve mechanical systems across marine projects. You will support new build and conversion projects from bid stage through testing, delivering practical solutions.

You will work with procurement, suppliers and class societies, produce specs and drawings, and travel occasionally for factory acceptance tests and trials. The role requires a Mechanical Engineering degree, independent work, strong communication,

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest in marine, offshore, or heavy engineering industries.
  • Willingness to learn and develop in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of new build and conversion projects from bid stage through to commissioning and testing.
  • Provide technical expertise on power and propulsion equipment, helping select, evaluate and manage critical systems.
  • Work closely with engineering teams, suppliers and class societies to ensure equipment performance, compliance and reliability.
  • Produce and review technical specifications, drawings, manuals and engineering documentation.
  • Support operations by troubleshooting equipment issues, identifying root causes and implementing long-term solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance to procurement teams on spare parts, equipment compatibility and alternative solutions.
  • Attend factory acceptance tests, commissioning activities and trials, with occasional international travel.
  • Take ownership of the Power & Propulsion equipment group and contribute to strategic equipment and lifecycle management decisions.
