Job summary

Pertemps is recruiting a Power Press Operator in Birmingham on a permanent basis. The role offers structured training, clear pay progression, and an early finish every Friday within a 38-hour week.

You will operate power presses (20–250 tonnes), inspect components, and use verniers/micrometers to ensure quality. A supportive production environment with team collaboration and 5S practices is provided.

Qualifications

  • At least two years' experience in manufacturing/production.
  • Experience operating power presses 20–250 tonnes.
  • Experience inspecting manufactured components.
  • Confidence using verniers, micrometers and gauges.
  • Understanding of manufacturing quality standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and safety.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to work safely in a busy production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate power presses ranging from 20 to 250 tonnes and related machinery.
  • Manufacture components to engineering drawings and quality specs.
  • Perform first-off and in-process inspections.
  • Use verniers, micrometers and gauges for measurements.
  • Ensure components meet standards before progression.
  • Monitor machine performance and report faults promptly.
  • Collaborate with Supervisors/Engineers to maximise efficiency.
  • Follow production schedules and meet daily output targets.
  • Maintain production records and traceability.
  • Support team and maintain 5S workplace.

Job Title: Power Press Operator

Location: Birmingham, Curdworth

Salary: Approximately £29,670 during training, rising to approximately £31,625 once trained, including shift allowances

Hours: 38 hours per week

Shift: Weekly rotating mornings and afternoons

Contract: Permanent

The Role

Reporting to the Manufacturing Supervisor, you will operate power presses and associated production machinery to manufacture high-quality components in line with engineering and customer requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Operating power presses ranging from 20 to 250 tonnes
  • Manufacturing components to engineering drawings and quality specifications
  • Completing first-off and in-process inspections
  • Using verniers, micrometers, gauges and other measuring equipment
  • Ensuring components meet the required standards before progressing
  • Monitoring machine performance throughout production
  • Reporting machine faults and production issues promptly
  • Working with Supervisors, Coordinators and Engineers to maximise efficiency
  • Following production schedules and achieving daily output targets
  • Completing production records and maintaining product traceability
  • Supporting colleagues and contributing to a positive team environment
  • Maintaining a clean and organised workplace in line with 5S
  • Completing manual-handling duties when required
  • Following all quality and Health & Safety procedures
What We're Looking For To be considered
  • At least two years' experience within a manufacturing or production environment
  • Previous experience operating power presses between 20 and 250 tonnes
  • Experience inspecting manufactured components
  • Confidence using verniers, micrometers and gauges
  • A good understanding of manufacturing quality standards
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Basic computer literacy
  • The ability to work safely within a busy production environment

You will rotate weekly between:

Morning Shift - 7.5% allowance

Monday to Thursday: 6:00am-2:00pm

Friday: 6:00am-12:00pm

Afternoon Shift - 20% allowance

Monday to Thursday: 2:00pm-10:00pm

Friday: 12:00pm-6:00pm
