Job summary

Prysmian is seeking a Power Grids Development Engineer in Wrexham to lead end-to-end R&D for energy cables, including material selection, testing, and approvals. You will manage design and qualification processes, support customer enquiries, and drive cost reduction while ensuring compliance with customer specs and quality standards.

The role involves technical liaison with suppliers and coordination of sample testing, with training provided for processes and materials as needed.

Qualifications

• Educated preferably up to degree level or similar in a relevant Engineering subject.
• A high degree of numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail.
• Demonstrate problem solving skills, tenacity and capability to work independently on projects or as part of a team.
• Product knowledge including materials and cable manufacturing processes would be advantageous, but suitable training will be provided.
• IT skills in MS Office necessary. Experience with SAP would be advantageous but suitable training will be provided.
• Applicants should be customer and service focused and able to communicate at all levels, with both technical and non-technical people.

Responsibilities

• Design, development and testing of energy cables for Power grid at Wrexham to meet specifications.
• Manage design, development and qualification processes using Accolade project management system.
• Provide technical support to customer enquiries and contracts.
• Involve in management of product design changes.
• Cost reduction (DTC) and approval of alternative materials with raw material specs.
• Prepare Technical Instructions within Wrexham plant.
• Plan and execute sample testing for R&D and product qualification.
• Evaluate sustainable materials and suppliers to reduce environmental footprint.
• Liaise with external suppliers to coordinate new projects.
• Provide updates to R&D UK director and participate in presentations.
• Support Quality during external audits.
