Our client, an interesting London-based Commodities firm, is seeking to hire a Power & Gas Regulatory Reporting Business Analyst. The business is undergoing a transformational change and requires an adaptable individual willing to take initiative, as it is a very busy environment.
The role can be aligned either as a contract or permanent position!
Role Scope:
- Perform business analysis for Regulatory Reporting, focusing on software solutions and their implementation or change.
- Experience with regulatory reporting for commodities trading, including Physical Power and Gas.
- Manage project lifecycle activities: business requirements analysis, functional specifications, testing, and UAT support.
- Conduct data analysis to support business needs, such as lineage mapping from database schemas to reporting outputs.
- Handle transaction reporting regulations like REMIT, MiFID2, & EMIR.
- Familiarize with existing applications and processes, aligning with project requirements.
- Assist the Regulatory Reporting Manager with project documentation and expertise.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure full regulatory compliance through business analysis of REMIT reporting requirements.
- Gather, document, and explain business requirements, collaborating with stakeholders and project team members.
- Create functional specification artifacts for change management, suitable for users and IT development.
- Perform root-cause analysis to address issues and implement systematic and functional solutions.
- Test software changes to ensure they meet regulatory reporting needs.
- Document source-to-output data mappings for regulatory submissions.
- Lead workshops to resolve issues, analyze, and propose solutions with project teams and stakeholders.
- Develop User Acceptance Testing strategies and scripts, obtaining stakeholder approval.
- Support UAT phases across different project stages and implementations.
Accountabilities:
- Deep knowledge of REMIT, EMIR, Dodd-Frank, MiFID II, and related energy trading regulations.
- Review regulatory texts, guidance, and industry best practices.
- Produce Business Requirements Documents (BRDs) & Functional Specification Documents (FSDs) and secure sign-offs.
- Perform data lineage analysis, tracing trade data from source systems to final reports.
- Identify and remediate trade reporting issues related to data quality and completeness.
- Collaborate with compliance teams to interpret and implement evolving regulatory requirements.
- Understand trade lifecycle processes, including trade capture, clearing, and settlement.
- Engage with IT and reference data teams to clarify requirements.
- Document UAT approaches and obtain sign-off.
- Conduct functional testing and UAT, ensuring sign-offs are achieved.
- Deliver SLDC artifacts systematically for relevant audiences.
- Own documentation and specifications, escalating issues as needed in a structured manner.
- Work collaboratively, seeking solutions that meet regulatory standards with pragmatic software delivery.
Skills & Experience:
Essential
- Understanding of transaction reporting requirements across UK and EU jurisdictions, especially REMIT.
- Experience as a Business Analyst within regulatory change projects in commodities or financial services.
- Strong exposure to the front-to-back trade lifecycle, knowledge of traded derivatives for ETD and OTC.
- Ability to elicit and document Business Requirements and Functional Specifications, working closely with IT and business stakeholders.
- Experience collaborating with IT development teams.
- Proficiency in SQL for data interaction and understanding complex data sets.
- Advanced MS Excel skills for data analysis and prototyping.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment with a positive attitude.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong collaboration ethos.
- Comfort working with IT development teams and engaging in daily interactions.
Desirable
- Experience in energy or metals trading environments, especially related to regulatory reporting.
- Familiarity with commodities trading risk management systems like Openlink Endur.
- Experience with third-party regulatory reporting systems or trade repositories.
- Proficiency in MS Visio and PowerPoint.
- Experience in regulatory remediation projects.
