Job summary

Royal Mail in Prestwick is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to join our fixed-term 6-month contract. You will sort letters and parcels, deliver by van and on foot, and build relationships with customers on your route across Prestwick.

Working 30 hours per week on a rotating shift (Mon-Sun, 10:00-16:00) with overtime, you must be physically fit, have a full manual UK driving licence, and enjoy working outdoors in all weather. Training provided.

Qualifications

• A full manual UK driving licence (minimum points up to 6) registered to your current name/address.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and be able to pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift/carry 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable and self-motivated.
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment.
• Customer-focused with pride in delivering great service.
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently.

Location: Prestwick Delivery Office, KA9 1AL

Job type: Fixed Term contract 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 10:00am/16:00pm*

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
