Postdoctoral Scientist in Neuroinflammation research

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to lead a project investigating the spatial neuroimmune landscape of Parkinson's disease. You will study how different microglial states interact with hallmark PD pathology, using machine-learning approaches to quantify neuroinflammatory and protein pathologies and spatial transcriptomics to characterise their molecular and spatial relationships. You will also analyse, integrate and disseminate complex imaging and multi-omic datasets.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly established UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) Parkinson's Research Centre at the University of Oxford, which aims to understand the causes and mechanisms of Parkinson's disease (PD) and translate these discoveries into improved diagnosis and treatments.

The post will be based in the Translational Neuropathology Group, led by Professor Laura Parkkinen in the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences. The group combines molecular neuropathology and translational neuroscience to investigate disease mechanisms using human brain tissue and clinical biosamples. Professor Parkkinen is also Director of the Oxford Brain Bank, providing access to well-characterised post-mortem brain tissue and matched clinical samples from deeply phenotyped donor cohorts.

The post is part-time and fixed-term.
