Job summary

University of Exeter is seeking an Image Analyst to join the UK Human Functional Genomics Initiative within the Data Coordination Centre. You will analyse diverse imaging datasets, develop new methods, and promote open science across collaborating groups.

The role supports national efforts in functional genomics, with opportunities for methodological development, tool building, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Fixed-term contract funded by external bodies ending 28 February 2029.

The Role

We are looking for a talented and motivated Image Analyst to join the UK Human Functional Genomics Initiative based in the Data Coordination Centre (DCC) at the University of Exeter. As part of a £28.5 million MRC and BBSRC investment, you will contribute to a national effort to uncover how genetic variation drives human physiology and disease. You will collaborate with leading research groups across the UK – spanning academia, healthcare, and industry.
In this role, you will work in the DCC Team to analyse rich and diverse imaging datasets generated across the Initiative. You will provide support to researchers by developing and applying new methods, implementing innovative tools, and championing best practices in open and reproducible science.

About You

The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in insert subject area and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required.

£43,482 to £53,301 per annum on Grade F, depending on knowledge, skills and experience
