This full-time research and engineering position invites an early career engineer to help advance precision scientific instrumentation through embedded systems innovation at Ossila Limited. Based in Sheffield, this role sits at the intersection of cutting-edge hardware and firmware development, contributing to the design and implementation of control systems for advanced scientific equipment. In this position, you will be involved in developing and refining embedded firmware and control systems using languages such as C and C++. The role supports the ongoing growth of precision scientific instrument platforms, requiring engagement with both hardware-software integration and iterative testing cycles. You will work alongside experienced engineers, contributing to the engineering lifecycle from implementation to performance optimisation and documentation within a collaborative team setting.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should have a PhD in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems or a closely related field, with a solid foundation in electronics and embedded firmware development. Demonstrable experience in designing, testing, and deploying embedded software and systems is expected.

Required Expertise, Skills

The successful applicant will have strong embedded systems proficiency, including firmware development in C/C++, familiarity with hardware interfacing and control logic, and the ability to troubleshoot and optimise embedded code on real hardware platforms. Practical experience with microcontrollers, real-time systems, and scientific instrumentation will enhance research and engineering contributions.
