Job summary

The Earlham Institute seeks a postdoctoral computational biologist to lead the computational core of a Protist Omics at Scale project. You will oversee quality control, assembly, decontamination, and annotation across aims, developing new methods where existing tools fall short.

Based on the Norwich Research Park, you will collaborate with international partners, contribute to software engineering, and publish findings at national and international venues.

Qualifications

• PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics or related discipline.
• Practical experience analysing large-scale sequencing data and de novo genome assembly using long-read sequencing.
• Proficiency in at least one bioinformatics programming language.
• Experience in Linux/HPC environments.

Responsibilities

• Develop expertise in advanced genome and transcriptome assembly approaches.
• Work on complex long-read and single-cell sequencing datasets.
• Contribute to development of novel computational methods.
• Develop reproducible workflows and software engineering practices.
• Create and maintain reproducible bioinformatics workflows (e.g., Galaxy, WorkflowHub).
• Collaborate with internal and external partners across the consortium.
• Lead or contribute significantly to computational project outputs.
• Publish research findings and present at conferences.
• Participate in workshops and community training activities.
• Support supervision of students where appropriate.
