Job summary

SAMS in Oban seeks a Post-Doctoral Researcher to advance metabolomics and marine biotechnology within the MaMaCas project. You will explore up-cycling marine waste streams into valuable metabolites, develop cultivation methods, and apply proteomics to enzyme profiling.

The role offers a 2.5-year fixed-term contract, full-time, with opportunities to publish and contribute to teaching. Occasional travel to EU partners is expected.

Qualifications

• PhD related to metabolomics, lipidomics and/or fermentation.
• Experience cultivating marine organisms.
• Experience scaling production to 10 L bioreactor.
• Proficiency with HPLC, GC-MS and GC-FID in research.

Responsibilities

• Develop cultivation strategies for marine heterotrophic protists on waste streams.
• Use proteomics to analyse extracellular enzymes of marine protists.
• Possibly use genomic data to reverse-engineer media design.
• Travel to EU partner sites for project meetings and reporting.
• Contribute to teaching on SAMS degree programs.
