Job summary

SAMS, Oban, invites a Post-Doctoral Researcher to join a marine biotechnology team focused on converting marine waste streams into high value metabolites. You will develop cultivation strategies for marine protists and apply proteomics to study extracellular enzymes.

The role includes collaboration on the MaMaCas project, travel to EU partners, reporting, publication, and potential teaching on SAMS programmes.

Qualifications

• PhD in metabolomics, lipidomics or fermentation is essential.
• Demonstrated experience cultivating marine organisms and scaling to 10 L bioreactor scale.
• Experience using HPLC, GC-MS and GC-FID in research.
• Interest in synthetic biology and bioinformatics is helpful.
• Ability to work in a small team and publish work.

Responsibilities

• Develop novel cultivation strategies for marine heterotrophic protists on waste streams.
• Use proteomics to analyse extracellular enzymes of marine protists and interpret data.
• Potentially leverage genomic data to reverse-engineer cultivation media design.
