The HighlanderLab at Edinburgh's Roslin Institute are looking for an individual experienced in genomic simulation and scientific software development in R/Python. This exciting position is part of the HiPerBreedSim project, funded through a competitive BBSRC 24BBR grant awarded to Daniel Tolhurst, Gregor Gorjanc, and myself. With HiPerBreedSim, we are going to deliver new tools and resources to industry and the breeding community, and boost research in evolutionary genomics.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will extend our selective breeding simulator AlphaSimR and improve interoperability with the tree sequence (ancestral recombination graph) ecosystem. They will also add functionality for polyploids to the coalescent simulator msprime. There will be ample opportunity for publication and dissemination.

Qualifications

A PhD in genetics, computational biology or a related discipline

Experience in a high-level programming language preferably Python and R

Experience with genetic simulations forwards or backward in time
