Job summary

University of Birmingham is seeking a Research Fellow (Post-doc) in Computational Structural Biology. The role focuses on membrane proteins, protein–ligand complexes and macromolecular assemblies using advanced MD and enhanced-sampling methods.

It combines computational approaches with experimental data in a vibrant, international research group. The successful candidate will develop new computational workflows, publish findings, supervise students and contribute to bids for funding.

Qualifications

• PhD (or near completion) in Computational Structural Biology, Biophysics, Structural Biology, Computational Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics or related field.
• Proficiency in computational studies of biomolecular systems and ability to integrate with experimental data.

Responsibilities

• Develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research in Computational Structural Biology.
• Generate, analyse and interpret computational data to explain biomolecular mechanisms with experimental data.
• Apply advanced molecular dynamics techniques to investigate membranes, protein-ligand complexes and assemblies.
• Integrate computational models with available experimental structural and biochemical data.
• Disseminate findings through seminars, conferences, posters and publications.
• Supervise students and provide guidance to PhD students as appropriate.
• Contribute to writing bids for research funding and to developing new models and methods.
• Undertake management/administration arising from research and support enterprise/public engagement.
