The University of Birmingham invites applications for a Research Fellow (Post-doc) in integrative structural biology within Prof. Teresa Carlomagno's group.

The post focuses on high-resolution biomolecular structure determination using cryo-EM, NMR and complementary techniques to study RNA metabolism and gene expression. You will develop and apply new methods, generate biomolecular complexes, supervise students where appropriate, and contribute to bids and publications.

Qualifications

  • PhD (or near to completion) in Biophysics/ Biochemistry/ Structural Biology or related areas.
  • Proficiency in single-particle Electron Microscopy (cryo-EM) and data analysis.
  • Practical experience in a biochemical laboratory and handling nucleic acids.
  • Strong analytical, writing and oral communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop research objectives and proposals within the hosting lab area.
  • Acquire, analyse and interpret structural biology data and cryo-EM data.
  • Operate the cryo-EM microscope and prepare grids for experiments.
  • Produce biomolecular complexes via molecular biology techniques.
  • Disseminate research findings through publications and seminars.
  • Supervise students and assist with PhD training where appropriate.
