Job summary

Royal Mail in Hoylake is recruiting a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 6-month contract. The role covers 30 hours per week, 5 days in 7, with a rotating shift including Sundays. You’ll deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, outdoors in all weathers, building relationships with customers.

Full manual UK driving licence required (up to 6 penalty points), willingness to drive daily, and ability to pass a driving assessment. Full training and a uniform are provided.

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 09:00/17:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Hoylake Delivery Office.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
