Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Ormskirk is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to deliver letters and parcels on a 30-hour week. You will work on a rotating schedule, including some weekends, with a 9-month fixed-term contract and paid overtime.

Full training, a uniform, and a red Royal Mail van are provided. Applicants must hold a full manual UK driving licence, be physically fit to walk long distances, and enjoy working outdoors.

Location: Ormskirk Delivery Office, L39 9AA

Job type: Fixed Term 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30:00hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 08:30/15:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work 4 in 6 Sundays at Omrskirk Delivery Office

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
