Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Waterlooville is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed term contract of 6 months to deliver letters and parcels on a 30-hour week schedule, with shifts of 09:00-15:00 or 12:00-18:00 and a salary of £13.68 per hour plus paid overtime.

You'll sort at the delivery office, deliver by van and on foot in your local area, and build relationships with customers while working outdoors in all weathers.

Qualifications

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30.00hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 09:00 - 15:00/12:00 - 18:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
