Job summary

Royal Mail in Shoreham-by-Sea is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to sort and deliver letters and parcels in the local area, 30 hours per week on a rotating schedule.

You will drive a Royal Mail van and walk when needed, work outdoors in all weathers, and occasionally work Sundays on a 1-in-4 rota.

Full training provided, uniform and a reliable, customer-focused approach are valued; strong organisational skills help manage busy routes.

Qualifications

• Must hold a full manual UK driving licence with up to 6 penalty points.
• Able to pass a driving assessment for Royal Mail vans.
• Physically fit for long walking distances and lifting 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable, self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Customer-focused with a proactive approach to service.

Location: Shoreham By Sea Delivery Office, BN43 5XN

Job type: Fixed Term contract (6 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 09:00/18:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work 1 in 4 Sundays, from 10:00 to 16:00.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
