Royal Mail is looking for a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Rochester on a fixed-term contract for 6 months. You will deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, working 35 hours per week across five days in seven with rotas that include weekends.

You’ll be outdoors, independent, and community-facing, with full training provided. Applicants must hold a full manual UK driving licence (up to 6 points) and be able to pass a driving assessment, with a strong focus on reliable, customer-first

Location: Rochester Delivery Office, ME1 1AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 35.00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:00-15:00 or 13:00 - 21:00.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
