Job summary

Royal Mail in Motherwell is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term contract for 9 months, 30 hours per week across Monday to Sunday. You will deliver letters and parcels, walking and driving as required, in the Motherwell area and surrounding routes.

The role is physically active, outdoors in all weather, with full training provided and a route-based schedule. Overtime may be paid, with a rotating weekend pattern and a mandatory Sunday presence at Wishaw.

Qualifications

• Full manual UK driving licence (max 6 penalty points).
• Willingness to drive Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit to walk long distances and lift 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable, self-motivated and well organised.
• Customer-focused with pride in delivering great service.
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently.

Responsibilities

Location: Motherwell Delivery Office, ML1 1AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working (5) days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 10:00/16:20*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Wishaw Delivery Office.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
