Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Chesterfield for a 9-month fixed-term contract. You will work 30 hours per week across 5 days, with rotating shifts and weekend involvement, delivering letters and parcels by van and on foot.

You’ll need a full manual UK driving licence, be physically fit, and able to work outdoors in all weather while building relationships with customers.

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30 hours per week - working 5 in 7 days across Monday - Sunday - 8:30am-3:30pm or 1:30pm-8pm*

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
