Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Macclesfield is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 9‑month contract. You will sort mail, deliver by van and on foot in your local area, and build relationships with customers while working outdoors in all weathers.

The role requires a full manual UK driving licence, fitness for long walking distances, reliability and self-motivation. The schedule is 30 hours per week, with some weekend work, and a rotating shift.

Qualifications

• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.

Location: Macclesfield Delivery Office, SK10 1EJ

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 Months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 30hours per week - working 9days in 14 across Monday - Sunday - 09:00 -15:00

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
