Job summary

Royal Mail in Langport is seeking a dedicated Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to sort letters and parcels, deliver by van and on foot, and build strong relationships with customers across the local area. You will work on a rotating schedule, including weekends, and your rota will reflect demand and routes.

The role is 32 hours per week, with a fixed term of 12 months. Full training, a uniform, and a reliable red van are provided, together with overtime opportunities and benefits.

Location: Langport Delivery Office, TA10 9RB

Job type: Fixed Term contract, 12 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 32 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – working between 07:30/17:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work one in three Sundays at Taunton Delivery Office.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
