Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Hull is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term basis for 6 months. You will sort letters and parcels, deliver by van and on foot in your local area, and connect with customers while working outdoors.

The role requires a full UK driving licence, physical fitness for long walks, and a reliable, self-motivated approach. You’ll work a 30-hour week across Monday to Sunday, with overtime available and a shift pattern that may include Sundays.

Location: Hull Central Delivery Office, HU9 1AA

Job type: Fixed Termcontract 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30:00hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 09:30/15:30*

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You'll be required to work Sundays at Malmo Road Delivery Office (09:00 - 15:00 or 11:00 - 17:00)

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
