Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Hockley to deliver letters and parcels across local routes. The role involves driving a Royal Mail van daily, walking routes, building customer relationships, and working outdoors in all weather.

A 37-hour week with a rotating shift across 7 days and Sundays participates in a fixed term 12-month contract. You’ll receive full training, a uniform, and a supportive pension and wellbeing package, with potential overtime.

Qualifications

• Must have a full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points).
• Be willing to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.

Location: Hockley Ss Delivery Office, SS5 4AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract 12 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 37:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday –07:00 to 14:00 OR 12:00 to 19:00.

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Southend Delivery Office on a rota basis

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
