Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Chiswick is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term contract for 9 months. You will deliver letters and parcels in the Chiswick area, work 37 hours per week across a 5-in-7 rota including weekends, and use a Royal Mail van.

You must hold a full manual UK driving licence with up to 6 penalty points, be physically fit to walk long distances, and enjoy working outdoors. Full training provided, with benefits and a supportive team.

Location: Chiswick Delivery Office, W4 4JG

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £16.24 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 37.00 hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 07:00/20:00

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at West London Delivery Office, NW10 7NZ.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
