Job summary

The Production Guild in London (Greater London) is seeking a skilled Post-Production Engineer to support our Sound and Picture facilities used on major film and TV productions. You will help architect, deploy, and support storage, networking and peripheral services across post-production workflows.

You will work with Windows, Mac, Linux, and DSP equipment, contributing to calibration, system imaging, and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Pro AV engineering in post-production or broadcast environments.
  • Experience with post-prod workflows and technical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the Engineering team on day-to-day running and support of post-production facilities systems.
  • Liaise with post-production staff to ensure clear communication flow between stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain media servers, projection systems, network infrastructure, streaming and storage systems.
  • Assist with calibration and lineup of post-production systems for sound and picture.
  • Own assigned job tickets raised by front-of-house, facilities, and post-production staff.
  • Develop understanding of workflows to optimise and support those workflows.
  • Create and maintain system documentation.
  • Occasionally work evenings/weekends for planned tasks during downtime or high-profile productions.

Job description

The Post-Production Engineer will have the opportunity to apply their expertise to our Sound and Picture post-production facilities and workflows in use on some of the industry’s biggest studio feature films and episodic television drama.

In this varied, complex and challenging role they will primarily contribute to the architecture, configuration, deployment, and support of our sound and picture post-production systems, including storage, networking and peripheral services and solutions. There will also be a requirement to employ their technical knowledge and skills to support other business systems around the studio site, within production facilities such as our shooting stages and serviced offices for example.

The candidate should possess a successful track record of working in an engineering capacity in post- production and/or broadcast environments that deliver content of premium standard for film, television and streaming platforms.

The role could also suit a candidate from an Audio-Visual systems commissioning background, experienced in deploying prime commercial projects, confident interfacing with key project stakeholders, and looking to apply and advance their expertise in a different industry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work as part of the Engineering team on the day to day running and support of post- production facilities systems
  • Close liaison with post-production department staff to ensure good communication flow between stakeholders
  • Build and maintain media servers, projection systems, network infrastructure, streaming and storage systems and related post-production equipment
  • Assist with the calibration and lineup of post-production systems for both sound and picture
  • Take ownership of assigned job tickets raised by front-of-house, facilities, and post- production staff
  • Continually develop understanding of the workflows used by our post- production teams to facilitate optimisations and support
  • Creation and maintenance of system documentation
  • The ability to work occasional evenings and weekends on planned tasks during periods of downtime and/or to support the post facilities running high profile productions
Skills Required:
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a pro audio-visual engineering field
  • Solid knowledge of audio and video wiring, terminations, and their translation to system documentation
  • Solid understanding of A/V requirements such as sync, channel coherence etc
  • Experience of configuring A/V DSP equipment
  • Extensive experience of Windows and Mac operating systems
  • Hands‑on practical skills of e.g. rack builds, wiring installation and termination, equipment repair and/or testing of connected systems
  • Proactive, can work independently – but will ask for assistance when needed
  • Understanding of industry recognised standards, technical specifications and best practices
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise
  • Able to remain calm and accurate under stress
  • Good communication skills and professionalism is key -situational awareness is crucial
  • Recent experience with Linux configuration and support
  • Experience of network protocols and their convergence into post-production through video streaming and network audio technologies such as Dante and NDI
  • Experience of production storage systems, e.g. DDP, PixStor
  • Experience with virtualised machine environments and system imaging
  • Knowledge of immersive sound formats including Dolby ATMOS
  • Familiar with the principles and servicing of digital audio mixing consoles, particularly AMS Neve DFC and AVID S6
  • Simple embedded projects with e.g. Arduino, RaspberryPi or ESP32
  • Scripting experience incl. testing of scripts for basic automation tasks
