Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Consultant Respiratory Medicine Fellowship based at Aintree University Hospital. The role mirrors a substantive consultant in terms of on-call duty and ward rounds, with potential activity across Trust sites after discussion.
In the first six months, time is split between inpatient and outpatient work, including ten weeks in ventilation ward supernumerary with two to three weeks post-take activity.
The appointee will be based primarily at the Aintree University Hospital site, it is possible that some clinical activity may be delivered on other Trust sites detailed above after discussion with the appointee. Duties will be undertaken in conjunction with the other Consultant Respiratory Physicians on this site., During the fellowship year, the job plan will closely mirror that of a substantive consultant. The successful candidate will join the consultant on-call rota and participate in post-take ward rounds.
The primary aim of the fellowship is to equip the doctor with the knowledge, skills, and experience required for a highly specialised consultant role. During the first six months, time will be divided between inpatient and outpatient work. Of the inpatient component, approximately ten weeks will be spent in a supernumerary capacity within the ventilation ward team, together with two to three weeks of post-take activity.
During the second six months, the fellow will spend approximately ten weeks leading the Ventilation Unit, with support and supervision always available from an experienced consultant colleague. This period will also include two to three weeks of post-take activity.
This fellowship offers an excellent opportunity to gain advanced clinical, leadership, and service development experience within a well-established tertiary Sleep and Ventilation service, providing an ideal bridge between specialty training and a substantive consultant appointment.
It is expected that the appointee will participate in the Respiratory on call rota (currently approximately 1 in 16 weeknights and 1 in 8 weekends 2 consultants working).
Applicants are required to be fully registered with the General Medical Council, with licence to practise, and are required to hold membership of the Royal College of Physicians UK (or equivalent). They should be listed on the Specialist Register for Respiratory Medicine, or be due to be registered within six months of the date of appointment.
