Job summary

MacIntyre in Wingrave is seeking a Positive Behaviour Support specialist to assess children and young people, develop personalised care plans, and implement proactive strategies to improve outcomes.

You will join a collaborative team, receive support for PBS qualifications, and help drive best practice across our children's homes and school, with opportunities for leadership and career development.

Qualifications

• Direct hands-on experience supporting children with learning disabilities and/or autism.
• Understanding of person-centred approaches and positive support strategies.
• Excellent communication, coaching, and mentoring abilities.
• Collaborative mindset with confidence to lead Positive Behaviour Support practice positively.
• Full driving licence and access to own vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive Positive Behaviour Support assessments of children and young people.
• Develop personalised, evidence based care plans.
• Work hands-on with children to implement proactive support strategies.
• Provide crisis intervention and support when needed.
• Coach and mentor staff on implementing Positive Behaviour Support approaches.
• Deliver training to embed Positive Behaviour Support principles across our children's homes and school.
• Lead Positive Behaviour Support best practice initiatives, driving improvements in outcomes.
• Work collaboratively with our therapy team and external professionals.

The Role

In this exciting and rewarding position, you will:

Directly Work with Children:

• Conduct comprehensive Positive Behaviour Support assessments of children and young people
• Develop personalised, evidence based care plans
• Work hands‑on with children to implement proactive support strategies
• Provide crisis intervention and support when needed

Positive Behaviour Support Leadership & Development:

• Coach and mentor staff on implementing Positive Behaviour Support approaches
• Deliver training to embed Positive Behaviour Support principles across our children's homes and school
• Lead Positive Behaviour Support best practice initiatives, driving improvements in outcomes
• Work collaboratively with our therapy team and external professionals

Caseload Management:

• Oversee a flexible caseload across our School and Children's Homes in Wingrave
• Provide specialist support to settings in Leighton Buzzard and St Albans
• Work in tandem with our Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, School Nurses, Other Positive Behaviour Support Specialists, Intensive Interactions mentor and external services.

About You

Essential Experience:

• Direct hands‑on experience supporting children with learning disabilities and/or autism
• Understanding of person‑centred approaches and positive support strategies
• Excellent communication, coaching, and mentoring abilities
• Collaborative mindset with confidence to lead Positive Behaviour Support practice positively
• Full driving licence and access to own vehicle

Ideal Candidates Will Have:

• Positive Behaviour Support qualification (Level 5 or postgraduate) OR willingness to study towards Level 5 qualification
• Experience in functional assessment and behaviour analysis
• Training delivery experience or enthusiasm to develop these skills
• Background in education, social care, healthcare, or support work with children who have learning disabilities

• Support workers with direct experience supporting children with learning disabilities and some Positive Behaviour Support awareness
• Teachers or teaching assistants with hands‑on SEND experience working with children who have learning disabilities
• Social workers or healthcare professionals with direct experience working with children who have learning disabilities
• Anyone with direct experience supporting children with learning disabilities who is passionate about positive behaviour support and ready to develop their expertise
