Job summary

Philosophy Education is seeking a Positive Behaviour Mentor for a Secondary SEMH School in West London. You will provide 1:1 mentoring to students with SEMH and ASC, developing emotional regulation and resilience within a therapeutic educational setting.

The role involves working closely with teachers, therapists and external agencies, monitoring wellbeing, and contributing to behaviour plans and risk assessments in a collaborative team. DBS enhanced checks will apply.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, ASC, ADHD or challenging behaviour.
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach with strong behaviour management skills.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with vulnerable young people.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Experience in school, alternative provision, youth work or related settings is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 mentoring and emotional regulation support for students with SEMH and ASC.
  • Build positive, therapeutic relationships using reflective and restorative approaches.
  • Support students to develop resilience, confidence, independence and positive coping strategies.
  • Monitor behaviour, emotional wellbeing and progress, maintaining records and contributing to behaviour plans.
  • Work with teachers, SEND professionals and external agencies to deliver targeted interventions.
  • Promote positive behaviour and respond calmly to challenging situations.
  • Support students during lessons, transitions, breaks and activities across the school day.
  • Build positive relationships with parents and carers to support students at home.
  • Accompany students on educational visits and support pastoral activities.

A specialist Secondary SEMH school in Hillingdon is seeking a dedicated and resilient Positive Behaviour Mentor to join its experienced pastoral team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has experience supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism (ASC), ADHD, challenging behaviour or additional needs, and is looking to work in a rewarding, therapeutic education setting.

You will play a key role in supporting students to develop emotional regulation, resilience and positive behaviour, helping them to engage successfully in education and achieve their full potential.

The Role

As a Positive Behaviour Mentor, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 mentoring and emotional regulation support for students with SEMH and ASC.
  • Build positive, therapeutic relationships using reflective and restorative approaches.
  • Support students to develop resilience, confidence, independence and positive coping strategies.
  • Monitor behaviour, emotional wellbeing and progress, maintaining accurate records and contributing to behaviour plans and risk assessments.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, SEND professionals and external agencies to deliver targeted interventions.
  • Promote positive behaviour throughout the school, responding calmly and effectively to challenging situations.
  • Support students during lessons, transitions, breaktimes and other activities across the school day.
  • Build positive relationships with parents and carers to support students both in school and at home.
  • Accompany students on educational visits and support wider pastoral activities where required.
The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, ASC, ADHD or challenging behaviour.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach, with excellent behaviour management skills.
  • The ability to build strong, trusting relationships with vulnerable young people.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Experience within a school, alternative provision, youth work, residential care, mental health or similar setting is highly desirable.
