Summary

We’re looking for an experienced Portfolio Manager to help shape, coordinate and enable the delivery of the National Trust’s Financial Growth Portfolio, a key part of our ten-year strategy.
You’ll play a pivotal role in enabling the work of the portfolio, helping senior stakeholders navigate challenges, understand risks and dependencies, maintain momentum and stay focused on delivering outcomes.

What it's like to work here

You’ll work as part of the Financial Growth Portfolio, supporting strategic delivery across a broad range of growth priorities and reporting to the Head of Planning & Programmes, with a functional connection into the Strategic Portfolio.

As a member of the wider portfolio, programme and project management community, you’ll have opportunities to share learning, develop best practice and contribute to the continued evolution of strategic delivery across the Trust.

Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.

What you'll be doing

You’ll help ensure that the Financial Growth Portfolio operates efficiently, effectively and in line with agreed governance and delivery frameworks.

Working closely with initiative leads, sponsors and senior stakeholders, you will support the effective governance, coordination and delivery of the Financial Growth Portfolio. This includes overseeing planning, reporting, risk and dependency management, providing insightful analysis and decision support, coordinating governance and review activities, and ensuring actions are followed through. By building strong relationships across portfolios, regions and countries, you will help connect teams, align priorities, identify risks and opportunities early, and drive continuous improvement to maximise value for the Trust.
You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don't need to have all of the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what’s possible in this role.

Who we're looking for

You’ll bring a broad range of the following knowledge, skills and experience, shaped by different roles, sectors or career paths, and the judgment to apply them effectively at scale;

  • Manage and coordinate the Financial Growth Portfolio, maintaining oversight of progress, priorities, risks and dependencies.
  • Coordinate portfolio planning, reporting, governance and review activities.
  • Provide clear analysis, insight and reporting to support decision-making.
  • Identify, track and escalation risks, issues, dependencies and opportunities.
  • Support governance forums and ensure actions and decisions are followed through.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships and enable effective cross-functional collaboration.
  • Drive continuous improvement in portfolio management, reporting and governance practices.
