Job summary

MBDA in Stevenage is seeking a Delivery Lead responsible for managing Portfolio engineering activities across the MBDA Complex Weapons Portfolio, including risk, obsolescence and engineering commonality. The role requires broad technical knowledge and strong influencing skills; it suits someone seeking a balance of technical understanding and business delivery.

You will work in a hybrid model (2-3 days on-site) with opportunities to shape delivery, improve Commonality, Modularity and Reuse,

  • Significant experience in an engineering discipline with broad technical knowledge across product lifecycle.
  • Ability to influence and challenge senior management including MOD/MBDA where required.

Responsibilities

  • The Delivery Lead manages Portfolio engineering activities for MBDA Complex Weapons Portfolio, including risks, obsolescence and engineering commonality.
  • Influence and lead across internal teams and senior stakeholders to ensure delivery plans are realistic and aligned with business needs.
  • Develop and implement new ways of working, driving improvements in Commonality, Modularity and Reuse while mitigating risks.
  • Review benefits and ensure realism from an engineering perspective in project portfolios.
  • Coordinate with Functions, Equipment Teams and Centres of Excellence to manage dependencies and risk escalation.

Portfolio Delivery Team Lead
Salary: Up to £55,000 depending on experience
Dynamic (hybrid) working: 2-3 days per week on-site due to workload classification
Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship
Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

The Delivery Lead is responsible for the management of Portfolio engineering activities associated with the delivery of the MBDA Complex Weapons Portfolio, including management of technical risks, obsolescence and engineering commonality.

The role demands a motivated individual with broad technical knowledge, and good influencing skills. It would suit someone who is looking for a balance of technical understanding and broader business delivery aspects. The successful individual will get exposure to wider Portfolio factors such as financial efficiencies, operational performance, exportability and Freedom of Action to the UK MoD.

  • Act as the point of contact between Functions, Equipment Teams, Centres of Excellence and the Portfolio as risks or issues arise.
  • Ensure solutions for portfolio obsolescence removal do not affect the dependencies established.
What we're looking for from you:
  • Significant experience in an engineering discipline, with a good understanding of product lifecycle including the design and development process for electro‑mechanical equipment.
  • The ability to work with, influence, and challenge where required including senior MOD and MBDA management.
  • A flexible mind‑set, able to tackle problems and develop genuinely innovative solutions for design challenges.
  • Ability to understand sophisticated technical problems, often with a high degree of uncertainty, complexity and inconsistency.
  • Effectively manage your priorities when presented with issues from multiple projects.
  • You are able to concisely summarise multi‑faced problems and influence, lead and empower teams positively.
