Job summary

MBDA in Bristol is seeking a Portfolio Delivery Team Lead to oversee the MBDA Complex Weapons Portfolio engineering activities from concept to production and in‑service support.

The role blends technical understanding with broader business delivery, managing risks, dependencies and exploiting flexible hybrid working arrangements. Security clearance is required and MBDA promotes inclusive processes across teams.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in an engineering discipline with understanding of product lifecycle for electro‑mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to influence senior MOD and MBDA management when required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage portfolio engineering activities for MBDA Complex Weapons Portfolio from concept to delivery and in-service support.
  • Oversee technical risks, obsolescence and engineering commonality across programs.
  • Develop and implement new ways of working, building on past successes to enable innovation.
  • Ensure programme plans for dependencies exist and are tracked.
  • Act as the point of contact between Functions, Equipment Teams, Centres of Excellence and Portfolio risks or issues.
  • Ensure obsolescence solutions do not disrupt dependencies.

As a Systems Engineer at MBDA, you can be involved in all aspects of missile systems development, from early concept studies to series production and in-service support. A role in the Portfolio Delivery Team will offer exposure of the full product lifecycle and will help you develop your career by gaining an excellent understanding of the business, its operations, and its projects.

Job Title: Portfolio Delivery Team Lead

Salary: Up to £55,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 2‑3 days per week on‑site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity

The Delivery Lead is responsible for the management of Portfolio engineering activities associated with the delivery of the MBDA Complex Weapons Portfolio, including management of technical risks, obsolescence and engineering commonality.

The role demands a motivated individual with broad technical knowledge, and good influencing skills. It would suit someone who is looking for a balance of technical understanding and broader business delivery aspects. The successful individual will get exposure to wider Portfolio factors such as financial efficiencies, operational performance, exportability and Freedom of Action to the UK MoD.

  • Act as the point of contact between Functions, Equipment Teams, Centres of Excellence and the Portfolio as risks or issues arise
  • Ensure solutions for portfolio obsolescence removal does not affect the dependencies established

  • Ability to understand sophisticated technical problems, often with a high degree of uncertainty, complexity and inconsistency
  • Effectively manage your priorities when presented with issues from multiple projects
  • You are able to concisely summarise multi‑faced problems and influence, lead and empower teams positively
