Job summary

NHFM (Northumbria Healthcare Facilities Management) is recruiting a Porter for the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington. The role requires 37.5 hours per week (4 on, 4 off, 12-hour shifts 10:00–22:00) with weekend and bank holiday flexibility and a DBS check.

You will support patient movement, handling of linen and waste, and basic security duties as part of the Estates and Facilities team. The role may require driving and occasional security-related responsibilities.

Qualifications

• General education is required and Basic portering knowledge is expected.
• A recognised Security Industry Authority qualification should be pursued within 12 months if not held.
• Ability to follow procedures to ensure safety, security and efficient service.

Responsibilities

• Assist in directing patients and visitors within the site.
• Conveyance and movement of patients by wheelchair or stretcher.
• Collect and deliver linen, refuse, clinical waste trolleys and stores.
• Sort and frank external mail as required.
• Reception and movement of medical gas cylinders per Health and Safety guidelines.
• Remove refuse from external waste bins daily; maintain external areas tidy.
• Convey deceased patients to the Mortuary.
