Job summary

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust is seeking a part-time Portering/Courier to support hospital services across Worcestershire and Herefordshire. You will transport mail, specimens, and supplies, assist with security, and work closely with clinical teams.

The role offers flexible working, full training, and opportunities to contribute to a busy, varied service with weekend enhancements and generous annual leave.

Qualifications

  • Portering/courier experience preferred.
  • Ability to work to schedules and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Transport and collection/delivery of mail, specimens, pharmacy, and other items on site and to other sites as required.
  • Handle and monitor medical gas; record and process paperwork related to deliveries; manage keys for staff/contractors.
  • Move equipment, provisions, laundry, waste and furniture in line with Trust policies and procedures.
  • Support security of Trust buildings as required.
  • Occasional lone working with teamwork on other days.

Job description

We pride ourselves on providing a friendly, customer focused and caring Portering / Courier service. Working alongside clinical teams and infection control, Portering / Courier teams provide local and regional logistics to support the day to day running of hospital services across two counties. Duties will require you to work to schedules and procedures to ensure a smooth operation across multiple departments. You will form part of a team providing comprehensive Portering / Courier services. Tasks will include transport and collection / delivery of mail, specimens, pharmacy etc., both on site and to other sites as required. When assigned to undertake courier duties a vehicle will be supplied and must be maintained to ensure it remains roadworthy and fit for use by others. Portering duties will include handling and monitoring medical gas, recording, and processing paperwork related to receiving/making deliveries, managing, and allocating keys to appropriate staff / contractors, and moving equipment, provisions, laundry, waste and furniture, all in line with Trust policies and procedures. You will also be required to undertake security of trust buildings when appropriate. On some days, you may spend time lone working and as part of a team on others. The role is varied as no two days are the same. In return, you will receive full support, training, and guidance to enable you to fulfil the role and undertake these duties.

Working 23.75hrs hours per week - Monday to Friday (14.30 - 19.30 with a 15 min unpaid break) We have supportive and passionate teams, and you will receive full training to ensure you can succeed in this role.
