Job summary

Full-time

A vacancy has arisen within the Facilities department for a Porter to join our team. We are seeking a motivated individual with a positive attitude, good communication skills, and the ability to work well within a team.

The successful candidate should be flexible to meet the demands of the service, adaptable to departmental changes, and capable of learning new skills independently. The role is physical, involving walking for extended periods and using electric tugs to transport items within the hospital.

Experience working in a fast-paced environment is essential.

Candidates must be willing to work towards NVQ Level 2 in Customer Service and have basic IT skills. Reliability and workload prioritization are required.

The use of a Teletracking system for patient transfer requests is mandatory.

Main duties of the job

1. Providing effective services at Rotherham General Hospital, including escorting patients via wheelchair or bed between wards and departments.
2. Transporting equipment, mail, meals, specimens, linen, waste, and furniture.
3. Operating electric tugs to move waste and linen.
4. Working out of hours independently, prioritizing tasks and following supervisor instructions.
5. Ensuring safe and timely patient transfers in high-pressure areas, including A&E.
6. Carrying a mobile phone to access the Teletracking system for patient transfers.
7. Potentially driving Trust vehicles as required.
