Job description

Porters play a crucial role in maintaining hospital operations by transporting patients, goods, and equipment between departments as needed.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Moving patients (including babies, children, and adults), the deceased, mail, medical records, pharmacy supplies, blood units, pathology specimens, sterile supplies, patient meals, waste (domestic, confidential, clinical, cytotoxic), linen, and office furniture and equipment.
  2. Ensuring all modes of patient equipment are safe and functioning properly.
  3. Attending crash and trauma calls to support emergency teams.
  4. Deputising for Shift Leads in their absence and leading portering duties as required.
  5. Performing non-routine duties such as moving office furniture and equipment.
  6. Replenishing medical gas supplies and connecting systems when necessary.
  7. Collecting deceased patients from clinical areas and transferring them to the mortuary, completing all necessary documentation.
  8. Supporting security staff as needed.
