Job summary

Sovereign Fire and Security Ltd is seeking an experienced Portable Fire Extinguisher Engineer to service, maintain, test, and replace portable fire extinguishers at customer sites across the UK. The role requires rigorous adherence to UK standards and BAFE guidance, with a focus on safety and quality.

You will install, commission, and decommission extinguishers, identify faults, keep precise records, and deliver excellent customer service on site.

Qualifications

• Proven experience servicing and maintaining portable fire extinguishers.
• Understanding of relevant British Standards for portable extinguishers.
• Experience working independently across multiple customer sites.
• Excellent customer-facing communication and safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Perform annual service inspections, testing, and maintenance to standards.
• Install, commission, replace, and decommission portable extinguishers on site.
• Identify defects and non-compliance, and recommend corrective action.
• Keep accurate service records, certificates, and customer documentation.
• Provide professional customer service and build relationships on site.

Job description

Portable Fire Extinguisher Engineers provide professional, dependable, and compliant fire safety services to customers and contractors. Responsibilities include the installation, servicing, maintenance, testing, and replacement of portable fire extinguishers and associated fire safety products, ensuring all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with current industry standards.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Conduct routine annual service inspections, testing, and maintenance of portable fire extinguishers in accordance with relevant British Standards and BAFE requirements.
• Carry out the installation, commissioning, replacement, and decommissioning of portable fire extinguishers.
• Identify defects, damage, or non-compliance issues and provide recommendations for corrective action.
• Maintain accurate service records, certificates, and customer documentation in a timely manner.
• Deliver excellent customer service and build professional relationships with customers on site.

Experience Required

• Proven experience servicing and maintaining portable fire extinguishers.
• BAFE registered technician (or working towards accreditation).
• Understanding of relevant British Standards relating to portable fire extinguishers.
• Experience working independently across multiple customer sites.

Skills & Qualities Required

• Full driving license required and willing to travel throughout UK although most work will be along the M4/M5 corridor.
• Flexible attitude and approach including good interpersonal skills.
• Confident, friendly and can conduct themselves in a professional manner
