Job summary

Our client, a Local Authority, seeks an experienced Team Manager to lead its Environmental Protection Unit on an initial 3-month contract, with extension likely. You will provide strategic leadership of statutory environmental protection functions and oversee up to 8 staff.

You will manage caseload allocation, performance, and staff development, and offer technical advice on environmental protection matters, including upcoming legislative changes.

Qualifications

• Extensive practice-level experience in Environmental Protection.
• Experience managing a team delivering inspections and enforcement.
• Experience acting as a witness in court or at inquiry.
• Experience managing external contracts.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and best practice.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Our client, a Local Authority, is looking for an experienced Team Manager to lead their Environmental Protection Unit on an initial 3-month contract, likely to be extended. The role covers strategic leadership of statutory environmental protection functions, ensuring nuisance complaints are fully investigated and the service remains compliant with legislative requirements and recognised codes of practice. You'll manage a team of up to 8, overseeing caseload allocation, performance, and staff development, while providing technical and professional advice on environmental protection matters, including assessing the impact of upcoming legislative change. The role also involves reviewing proposed legal proceedings and enforcement action, ensuring high-quality case files are produced for prosecutions, liaising with government departments and partner agencies, and managing allocated service budgets.

Candidates should have significant practice-level experience in Environmental Protection and proven experience managing a team delivering inspections, investigation-based enforcement, and technical casework. Experience acting as a witness in court or at inquiry, managing external contracts, and working with elected members or government agencies at a senior level would be advantageous. You'll need excellent knowledge of relevant legislation and best practice, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to prioritise effectively and work confidently under pressure. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are required.

This role pays £450 per day (Umbrella) on an initial 3-month contract, with a strong likelihood of extension.
