Job summary

North East Chamber of Commerce is seeking a policy project intern for a fixed-term, full-time role (35 hours/week) with hybrid working across the North East region. Durham or Newcastle base with travel across the region and strong data analysis, event support, and stakeholder engagement skills required.

The role offers exposure to policy landscapes, engagement with businesses of all sizes, and opportunities to contribute to regional initiatives including Get Britain Working Trailblazer.

Qualifications

• GCSEs including Math and English.
• Relevant degree or voluntary experience in politics/business/economics/journalism.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to analyse information.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to plan and prioritise workload.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team; interest in current affairs.
• IT skills including MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Support the policy team to deliver a regional project engaging employers, stakeholders and young people.
• Assist in collecting and analysing quantitative and qualitative data.
• Organise and support policy events engaging employers and young people.
• Provide briefings to support the wider policy team.
• Advise on policy positions to engage with key stakeholders.
• Provide regular updates for members via website, publications and social media.
• Produce briefings for members on policy developments and the Chamber’s position.
• Collaborate with teams across the Chamber to engage with members.
