Job summary

Membership Bespoke is seeking a Policy Manager to join a respected Professional Membership Organisation. You will shape UK, European and international policy on data protection, AI policy, and GDPR, translating complex issues into practical guidance for members.

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will develop policy papers, monitor legislative developments, engage with regulators and stakeholders, and help advance ethical standards and self-regulation across the sector.

Qualifications

• Experience in policy, public affairs or regulatory affairs.
• Strong understanding of data protection and GDPR.
• Excellent research and written communication skills.
• Ability to interpret complex legislation and explain practical implications.
• Experience drafting policy materials, consultation responses, guidance or codes of conduct.
• Confidence building relationships with members, regulators and external stakeholders.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage priorities independently.

Responsibilities

• Develop policy papers, briefings, guidance and responses to public consultations.
• Monitor UK/EU/international legislative developments in data protection, AI and research regulation.
• Identify and develop AI policy priorities and strategy for the organisation.
• Draft and update industry codes of conduct and best practice guidelines.
• Provide clear written advice to members on codes, ethics and data protection requirements.
• Coordinate standards and public affairs initiatives with European and international research associations.
• Build relationships with government officials, regulators, professional bodies and industry stakeholders.
• Support GDPR compliance activity including Data Protection Impact Assessments where required.
• Prepare policy content for websites, member communications and social media.
• Represent the organisation and its partners at external meetings and speaking engagements with occasional UK/European travel.
