Job summary

The Policy Advisor will work across a wide range of policy areas, collaborating with BFI experts to develop policy positions and provide advice to UK Government, devolved governments and local authorities, and industry stakeholders.

The role will support major workstreams over the next year, including preparations for the BFI’s National Lottery funding plan for 2029-2033, with a particular focus on delivering growth in the cultural and economic impact of the UK’s screen industries.

Qualifications

  • Experience in policy making, government or regulatory environments.
  • Understanding of the UK screen sector and cultural industries.
  • Proven track record promoting diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience delivering evidence-based policy positions.

Job description

Fixed-term contract until 30 September 2027,41 hours a week (including 1 hour lunch break)

The Policy Advisor will work across a wide range of policy areas, working closely with experts across the BFI to develop policy positions and provide advice to UK Government, devolved governments and local authorities, and industry stakeholders.

The role will support major workstreams over the next year, including preparations for the BFI’s National Lottery funding plan for 2029-2033, and will have a particular focus on delivering against our strategic aim to grow the cultural and economic impact of the UK’s screen industries.

What you’ll do
  • To work with colleagues to support the BFI’s work as the UK National Lottery distributor for film. This includes around the launch of the BFI’s next National Lottery Funding Plan 2023-2029 and preparations for its implementation from April 2026, as well as early strategic work on its successor plan. This will include close communication with government and industry contacts.
  • To compile and summarise evidence and BFI positions for briefings and policy documents.
  • To pull together and analyse evidence to respond to government requests, consultations and select committee calls for evidence as they relate to the UK screen sector.
  • To support the policy team to develop and provide policy advice on a range of issues key to the cultural and economic impact of the screen sectors
What you’ll bring
  • Experience of working in a policy making, government or regulatory environment or equivalent.
  • An understanding of the UK screen sector and the wider cultural and creative industries.
  • A proven track record of promoting and supporting diversity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrable experience of building and delivering key evidence-based policy positions
