Volunteer Role: Poetry Group Facilitator

We are establishing a poetry group at Birch Lane and seek a volunteer to facilitate. Your responsibilities will include promoting the group to residents, encouraging attendance, setting up the session (including moving tables and chairs), preparing equipment (searching poetry websites, printing poems, connecting speakers), and tidying up afterward. Comfort with IT equipment and internet navigation is advantageous.

During sessions, you will read poems aloud, initiate discussions with prepared questions, and steer conversations to keep them engaging and on-topic. A love of poetry and enthusiasm for sharing it is essential. The group will collaborate on poem selection, and members will be encouraged to read aloud if comfortable.

Volunteer Duties:
  • Promote the poetry group to residents.
  • Collaboratively select poems with the group.
  • Read poems aloud and facilitate discussions.
  • Use IT equipment for searching, printing, and connecting audio devices.
  • Set up and clear equipment and furniture.
  • Prepare refreshments.
  • Maintain a friendly demeanor, respecting policies on boundaries and safeguarding.
  • Report concerns to staff.
  • Attend supervision and training sessions.

We offer training, supervision, an induction, a monthly newsletter, and peer support. Join us in making a difference.
